The Christian life is not a life free from pain. It’s not ‘come to Jesus’ and everything will be fantastic.
The Christian life is not a 30 second prayer of accepting Jesus that ensures you of a pass into heaven.
The Christian life is not a behaviour modification program that makes ‘nice’ people.
It’s not an optional extra.
Yes faith in Christ does offer healing but it’s not a right or something you demand of God.
You may go through your entire life and not be made well.
The bible says “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers us out of them all”.
It doesn’t say we will be delivered out of them all this side of heaven.
You may suffer from migraines your whole life.
You may have mental health issues and depression and never be free from these things.
In saying this I must say that I believe what the Word of God said about David, “He encouraged Himself in the Lord!”
There’s something to say about no matter what we go through our response is a choice.
Negative response or positive.
Pro-active!
Are you going to shake yourself off and pick yourself up or are you going to wallow in self pity and defeat?
You choose!
The Christian life is a life with Jesus.
This means we will go through trial and tribulations.
You’ll have mountain top experiences and valleys as well.
He has come to give us life in abundance, rest and peace, hope etc, but these things are internal and not based on external things, circumstances or people.
They are based on an authentic, sincere relationship with God.
If we treat God like a fast food menu to pick and choose what we want and when we want, we don’t have a relationship at all.
God is sovereign.
He knows the end from the beginning.
James 1:3-4 “You know the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking anything”
Romans 5:1-5 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
Don’t give up!
Don’t allow the devil to trick you or sway you away from God and the faith that you were called.
Keep strong and walk through the fires of life-God is with you all the way!
